Maturing Wayfair's Design System to Support a Scaling Organization

Overview

At Wayfair, our experience design team faced the challenge of transforming outdated sticker sheets into a mature design system that could scale alongside the organization. By centralizing design assets and implementing a new visual language, we delivered a cohesive look and feel across Wayfair’s portfolio of brands, creating a unified user experience and enabling rapid growth.

I shared this journey at UXPA Boston 2020 with my collaborators Jessie Rogers, Stephanie Cenatiempo, and Neva Corbo-Hudak in our talk From Sticker Sheet to Mature Design System: Improving User Experiences while Scaling an Org, where we highlighted how we partnered with dozens of product teams, tracked and measured design system adoption, optimized communication models, and rearchitected Wayfair’s design system to support scalability across geographies and brands.
